Over 40 Years of Power Quality Expertise & Application Knowledge

CPN Power has been applying and providing Central UPS Systems for Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Therapy applications for 23+ years. In fact, we have applied over 600 Central UPS Systems nationally. After working with many Clinical, Biomedical, Radiology, and Facilities Engineers at Hospitals nationally, we learned many additional benefits of providing complete protection for the imaging suites. One advantage of supporting imaging modalities with full UPS protection is that x-ray tube life can double, compared to imaging modalities with no, or partial, UPS protection. The cost savings associated with doubling tube life practically pays for the UPS System.

UPS Systems for Diagnostic Imaging & Interventional Labs

Based on peer benchmarking and internal analysis, Silver Cross selected a Central UPS approach to provide full outage protection across its imaging suites. This model reduced the physical footprint required within clinical areas, simplified maintenance, and delivered a scalable solution capable of supporting multiple service lines. CPN Power was selected as the vendor partner due to its proven experience supplying Central UPS systems to other regional hospitals with similar imaging demands.

Imaging UPS Case Study – Rhode Island Hospital

Rhode Island Hospital is a 683-bed teaching hospital located in Providence, RI. CPN Power was approached in early 2008 to review the requirement for a UPS System to support (3) VIR Labs. The hospital intended to install (1) VIR Lab initially, a second VIR Lab within a year, and a third VIR Lab within a 2-year timeframe. CPN Power was asked to provide design recommendations for a UPS to support all (3) Labs.

Imaging UPS Case Study – Charleston Area Medial Center

Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) was planning to purchase a new 256 Slice CT. The medical equipment vendor (Company P) offered a 225 kVA UPS to support the new 256 Slice CT. The consulting engineer on the project was aware of the Central UPS approach and suggested that the hospital review the project with CPN Power.

Central Power Protection for Multi-Modality Applications

When Saint Vincent Hospital, a 368-bed, acute care facility in Worcester, MA, purchased several new pieces of imaging equipment, the hospital decided to re-evaluate its power distribution. The Facilities Engineering and Radiology Departments decided to install one central 750 kVA UPS that could support multiple modalities. The new UPS would support the existing equipment, the new equipment, and still be able to support future equipment. The Radiology and Cardiology departments are now protected against all power problems, including power outages.
